How exactly does the process of cellular transmission for trail cameras work? What does the process look like? Let us explain.

The basic trail camera function for a cellular trail camera works the same as any other trail camera. A motion detection sensor activates the camera which then takes a photo, or several photos, and stores them on the SD or MicroSD card that is installed in the camera for memory.

Where a traditional trail camera is now done until the next detection, a cellular trail camera still has some work to do.

As pictures are taken, the camera stores them in a way that it knows which ones still need to be sent when the next scheduled transmission time arrives. Then, when the time arrives, the camera connects to the cellular network in the area and transmits the photos taken since the last transmission to the SPYPOINT servers.

It’s important to note that the camera isn’t sending the images directly to your phone. Your phone and the camera are not directly connected. That’s why you don’t have to have your cameras on your personal cell plan, and what you are able to choose the best carrier model that is right for the area that you are hunting.

Once the photos arrive to the SPYPOINT servers, you are able to access those images by opening your SPYPOINT app.

This keeps your photos stored securely, so they aren’t lost if something should happen to your phone. They are tied to your SPYPOINT account – and not your phone – so you can access them from virtually anywhere, by logging into the SPYPOINT mobile or web apps.
